Noche de Baile

Last night, I attended the OU Latin Dance Club’s Noche de Baile. This event showcased different forms of Latin dance and song. This event also marked the end of Hispanic Heritage Month and provided a vibrant cultural celebration.  We started by learning some of the basics of both salsa and bachata. I have seen these dance styles in performances before, but I had never tried them myself. Both dances involve rhythmic and intricate footwork. Salsa was more difficult to learn, while bachata was easier. We practiced on our own first, then we moved to dancing with a partner. In partner dances, there is one follow and one lead, and we got the chance to be both. It was definitely a bit tricky at first, but I was able to catch on. Overall, it was exciting to try something new and learn some dance moves! The night ended with some performances by the Peruvian Student Association and belly dancers. This event served to end Hispanic Heritage Month, but it was also a night of collective community and culture. I truly enjoyed this event, and I look forward to attending more!
